The St. Edward High School Rowing Team will be holding its 4th Annual Eagle Rowing Challenge at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the The Foundry, our boathouse located on Columbus Road in the Flats. The morning event includes the signature race between SEHS President Kubacki and this year’s challenger, Principal O’Linn, in addition to silent auctions, raffles, land games, lunch and more! This is the major fundraising effort for our team and we anticipate drawing 300 people to the event.
The St. Edward rowers, in only their fourth year of racing, had another very successful year. Our young men earned a total of 50 medals during the fall and spring rowing seasons, with 65 top five finishes and topped it off with gold for the Lightweight 4, silver for the Lightweight 8 and bronze for the Varsity 8 at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship with the V8 earning a bronze medal at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship against teams from throughout the country. In fact, this was the first National medal for any V8 team in Ohio! These successes in just four years speak volumes about the commitment of our rowers, coaches and parents. It comes with early morning workouts, spring break training in Clemson and perseverance to be the best.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 by August 20 to help our program continue to grow. Although we are supported by the school and parents, we still have to cover a lot of costs. Acquisition of shells, repairs to current boats and fees for regattas are just some of the expenses you can help us cover. Event tickets, including lunch, are only $10! Come join us to cheer on the rowers and participate in our many raffles and silent auction items!
